Riki Choshu's Thoughts On The G1

New Japan booker Riki Choshu was asked yesterday who he thought would win the G1 Climax this year and he said that Yuji Nagata is the best bet to win because he has had a tremendous year with his acquisition of the IWGP Heavyweight Title. Choshu said that Nagata has been very tough to beat since he won the title but this is the G1 so anything could happen and he is definitely not counting out “Mr. G1” Masahiro Chono. Choshu said that his darkhorse to win would be Shinsuke Nakamura and that Giant Bernard is going to be the one to watch out for.

Chono To Train Akebono For G1

Masahiro Chono stated today that he will start training with Akebono soon to prepare for the G1 Climax even though they are in the same block along with fellow Black New Japan teammate Giant Bernard. Chono said that someone from BNJ would definitely win the block and he feels like Akebono has as good of a chance as anyone else, so he wants to teach him more of his “black charisma.”

Followup on Kobashi

More on the Kenta Kobashi story from yesterday as Tokyo Sports is reporting that Kobashi could return as early as the Budokan show in October or the Budokan show in December with the match possibly being Kobashi teaming up with Yoshihiro Takayama not facing him and going up against Jun Akiyama & Mitsuharu Misawa. Tokyo Sports is saying that the chances of his return are great and that his training has been really intense as of late.

Kobashi vs. Takayama Coming Soon

Kenta Kobashi gave an interview today at NOAH offices where he said that he has started to lightly spar with other wrestlers and that he is progressing nicely for his return to the ring that he wants to happen before this year is over. He was asked about Yoshihiro Takayama’s challenge for him when he comes back that he made on Sunday at the Budokan and said that Takayama would be a natural opponent for him since he also came back from a serious injury that threatened his career.

Antonio Inoki Announces Next IGF Date

Antonio Inoki announced today that the next IGF show would take place on 9/8 at the newly named NGK Insulator Hall formerly Nagoya Rainbow Hall. No talent for the show has been booked yet.

Akebono Enters The G1 Climax

New Japan announced today that Akebono would be the final entrant in this year’s G1 Climax and he is preparing for the tournament with Satoru Sayama who is helping him work on his stamina and conditioning to help him lose weight.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan Being Advised To Take Time Off

Tokyo Sports reported yesterday that New Japan trainers are telling Hiroyoshi Tenzan that he needs to take time off from wrestling due to a seriously injured right shoulder that he has been working through since December and some head injuries more than likely being concussions that could really hurt his career. It was said that Tenzan can barely raise up his right shoulder and this is the reason why Tenzan’s results haven’t been as good this year as they have been in the past because New Japan is worried about his condition.

Perro Aguayo Jr. Returns

Perro Aguayo Jr. told Ovaciones yesterday that he is chomping at the bit to get back in the ring and he will do just that on 8/3 at Arena Mexico. Perrito said that his knee feels great and he should be better than ever when he returns. Perrito said that he doesn’t know who he would be booked against but of course prefers that Mistico be on the other side of the ring because he wants take his mask as soon as possible. Perrito said that his hatred for Mistico has only grown since he has been out of action and he can’t wait to rejoin his brothers in Los Perros del Mal to achieve their goal of making Mistico’s life a living hell.
